What is MMR?
MMR vaccine is a combination vaccine which protects against three diseases:
- Measles: Measles is a highly contagious infection, most common among children but can occur in people of all ages. It mainly spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes nearby.
- Mumps: Mumps is a contagious infection caused by the paramyxovirus affecting the salivary glands leading to painful swelling in the cheek and jaw. Mumps spread through respiratory droplets and saliva.
- Rubella: Rubella, also known as German measles is a viral infection caused by the rubella virus.
Though it is generally mild, it may cause serious complications if contracted during pregnancy.
Measles, Mups, and Rubella are serious viral infections that are highly contagious and lead to serious health conditions if not prevented.
